As digital equipment is getting more sophisticated and efficient, the following new services are becoming part of daily operations:
Digital stills and video of location scouts are posted to websites or e-mailed to directors, producers and agencies, drastically reducing the time required for sending visuals.
Most production companies have embraced Adbeast technology to view location images online. However, this process is not always immediate enough.
Some possible solutions
For real-time scouting, blue tooth technology transmits photographs using specially enabled cell phones from the field. Directors are involved in the location scouting process instanteneously.
The increasing number of wireless terminals in the city is making it easier and faster to e-mail location photos to a lab and get photographic prints back in a hurry. I have been using Pikto (www.pikto.ca) at The Distillery almost entirely for my photographic printing needs. In less than 15 minutes, Pikto provides flawless photographic prints from digital files. Pikto's convenient Agfa E-box accepts all forms of digital input such as cd-s, flash-cards, memory sticks, and direct USB link-ups. The photographer selects the images and the number of copies to be printed. Using the internet, you can send Pikto your digital image files through file transfer protocol (ftp) and have a courier pick them up.
For a small fee, we can post your digital location images on a world wide web location. We will use either your Adbeast studio or we will set up a customized password-protected area for you on our site. Please go to studio login and enter user name studio1 and password turtle for a test run. You will find this in-house service useful, if you don't currently have an Adbeast studio or when office p.a.'s are unavailable for posting images immediately.
